It’s summer. All your favorite tunes are blasting non-stop – not exactly unusual, but somehow they have got louder. You know the feeling: when the itch to finally see those bands live becomes unbearable. Don’t fight it, it’s one of the summer symptoms: the festival season is upon us after all. There’s no better time to get the tent out of the attic and your film out of the fridge! We selected our top festivals for you to chose from and visit with your Polaroid camera this summer. Your instant film enjoys a lot of sunshine too, you know. Book those flights and get ready to create memories to last you a lifetime. 

NOS Alive

When: 12 – 14 July
Where: Passeio Marítimo de Algés, Portugal
Who: Queens Of The Stone Age, Portugal The Man, Jack White, Real Estate, Pearl Jam

Could you have a festival that’s 8 minutes from a capital city, and also only 10 minutes from the beach? If yes, then book your flights to Portugal to enjoy NOS Alive, with a delicious line-up full of rock classics and newbies alike. The festival also has a Green Seal (Sê-Lo Verde, in Portuguese), ensuring biodegradable cups, recyclables collection and electric vehicles throughout.

Lovebox Festival

When: 13th – 14th of July Where: London, UK Who: Skepta, SZA, Wu-Tang Clan, Shy FX, Action Bronson, Childish Gambino, N.E.R.D.

What started out in 2002 as a Groove Armada party now has a huge following and a new London park to call home, Gunnersbury Park. If you’re heading to Lovebox Festival get ready to dance a lot, and rehearse your favorite tunes: there’s a hip-hop karaoke!


When: 19 – 22 July
Where: Benicassim, Spain
Who: Justice, The Vaccines, Pet Shop Boys, The Kooks, Liam Gallagher, Wolf Alice, Bastille

One of the biggest festivals on the Spanish coast (and actually based on a beach resort) promises big adventures and a lot of sunshine. Oh, and the best names in pop and rock music today as well, which is also good, right? Benicassim is the perfect option for those who love Glastonbury but can’t be bothered with bad weather and Wellies.

Pitchfork Festival

When: 20th – 22nd of July Where: Chicago, USA Who: Tame Impala, Courtney Barnett, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Zola Jesus, Alex G

What to expect from a festival organized by one of the best music media vehicles of all time? The very best of alternative music? Check. A record fair? Check. Artwork from locals and nationals alike? Check? The 20th-anniversary special performance of ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’? CHECK. Seriously, what are you waiting for? Pitchfork Festival has something for everyone. 


When: 26 – 30 July
Where: Tisno, Croatia
Who: Mr. Scruff, Horse Meat Disco, Mahalia, Tenderlonius, Total Refreshment Centre, DJ Cheeba

If Spain or the UK are too mainstream for you, book your flights to Croatia in time for the last edition of the Soundwave Festival. With a line-up heavy on alternative electronic music and hip-hop, get ready to dance at the beach, or even prepare yourself for a boat party.

Newport Folk

When: 27 – 29 July Where: Newport, Rhode Island, USA Who: Fleet Foxes, St. Vincent, Ben Harper, Courtney Barnett

Active for 58 years, this is the perfect festival to enjoy peaceful scenery and a lot of good quality acoustic guitars. Newport Folk is the ideal choice for old-school folk enthusiasts and newbies too.

Who: Arctic Monkeys, Bruno Mars, Tyler The Creator, The National, Franz Ferdinand, Jaden Smith

Created by Perry Farrell in 1991 as a farewell tour for his band Jane’s Addiction, this is now one of the most eclectic festivals in the US, and its touring qualities made people in Brazil, Germany and even Chile enjoy it as well. Lollapalooza is a classic destination for festival lovers all over the world.

End Of The Road

When: 31st of August – 3rd of September Where: Larmer Tree Gardens, Dorset, UK Who: St. Vincent, Feist, Yo La Tengo, Sunflower Bean, John Cale, Fat White Family, Ariel Pink

End Of The Road: the days are getting slightly shorter, the breeze, chillier. But there is still time to bid summer a warm farewell with a festival in the middle of Dorset, UK. Yes, it will probably rain. But at least you had an awesome summer, right?
